Soq Valley: Skardu’s Picturesque Paradise

The Soq Valley in Skardu, Pakistan, is more than just a destination; it’s an experience that touches the hearts and souls of all who venture into its embrace.

About Soq Valley

Situated at an elevation of 2,500 meters in the upper part of Kachura, this picturesque valley is a hidden paradise waiting to be explored. It is just 22.7 kilometers away from Skardu. Although it’s no longer a secret, the valley’s charm remains intact, captivating travelers with its enchanting beauty.

I was so intrigued by this land when I was searching about the destinations to visit in Pakistan. That’s when I included Soq Valley in our itinerary. I, Maisie along with my friends, headed towards Soq Valley after exploring the Kachura Lakes.

Our Expedition to Soq Valley

Reaching Soq Valley was an adventure in itself. A short half-hour journey from the Shangri-La Resort, either by jeep or bike, led us through a rugged yet engaging path. For an adventurous road trip, the journey to Soq Valley through the Karakoram Highway or via Babusar Pass is both fascinating and rewarding.

From Kachura Village, a left turn led us toward the entrancing Soq Valley.

The valley’s rugged terrain adds to the excitement, making every moment of the 30-minute ride worth our time. Luckily, we knew that SCOM signals might be accessible only at certain points. But this minor inconvenience pales in comparison to the valley’s captivating allure. It felt more ethereal when we were disconnected from the world, just totally encapsulated in the beauty of Soq Valley.

Soq Valley’s charm lies not only in its beauty but also in its untouched and unexplored ambiance. The valley’s rugged terrain and limited infrastructure have helped preserve its natural allure. Home to the rich flora of the western Himalayan conifer forests, the valley is famous for its wild apricot orchards. It also offers a glimpse of nature’s artistry.

This visit to Soq Valley unveiled a new facet, making it a haven for us nature lovers and explorers.

Activities at Soq Valley

Soq Valley offered a range of activities and made our visit memorable:

Trekking: We embarked on a trekking adventure to explore the valley’s rugged and bumpy terrain. The journey itself became a testament to our adventurous spirit.

Camping: We set up our camp amid the serene surroundings, enjoying the sounds of nature and the starry night sky. Nearby lodges and food stalls ensured us a comfortable stay. That was for sure the best experience.

Exploration: Wandering through the endless conifer forests and apricot gardens, following the little streams that weave through the landscape. The absence of wild or dangerous animals allowed us for a peaceful exploration.

Fishing: Who could miss fishing in this valley? Trout fishing is a popular activity in the area. We remembered to bring our fishing gear and enjoyed the experience.

The best time to experience Soq Valley’s beauty is from June to September. This is when the entire region is adorned with lush greenery. During summer, the temperature hovers around 15 degrees Celsius, while winter transforms the landscape into a snowy wonderland.

My time in Soq Valley was truly unforgettable. It was a unique and special place, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly unique and special travel experience.

Whether you choose to trek, camp, fish, or simply marvel at the breathtaking scenery, Soq Valley promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Pakistan’s natural beauty.
