As adventurous travelers, we are always out to explore and venture on the most challenging but rewarding journeys. One such journey that got imprinted on our hearts was traversing from Batakundi to Lalazar, a breathtakingly beautiful place in the Mansehra District of Kaghan Valley of Pakistan, KPK.
The adventure-fueled journey that is still freshly captured in our memories took us through some of the most exciting tracks while offering scenic landscapes. If you’re planning to get on this thrilling trip, here’s everything you need to know!
Our Expedition to Batakundi and Lalazar
While on our Pakistan exploration tour and staying in Naran, a popular town in Kaghan Valley. We woke early, geared up, fastened our backpacks, and wasted no time embarking on our journey. The first thing we did was to hire a jeep from Naran stop to Batakundi, a mountainous town at a distance of approximately 15 km away from Naran. The jeep was enough for 6-7 persons, and one must have good bargaining skills to negotiate the fare.
The jeep took us through a winding road that gradually went through altitude. We could witness the stunning landscapes surrounding us. Passing through narrow tracks, wooden bridges, local villages, and awe-inspiring meadows, the journey became an exhilarating experience.
Reaching Batakundi
After an approximate 45-minute thrilling jeep journey, we reached the town of Batakundi.
Situated at an elevation of approximately 2624 meters (8609 feet) above sea level, the place felt ethereal, with towering mountains and lush greenery all around. The river Kunhar flowing nearby adds an aesthetic touch to this mountainous village.
We went and explored several beautiful places in Batakundi. Stunning waterfalls cascading from the mountains were the best sights to capture. The locals were mostly Gujjars, liberal and welcoming people fluent in Urdu and Hindi.
After spending ample time here, we got into gear for our exciting journey to Lalazar. We hired a jeep to take us from the road. This track is known to be a real test for drivers as well as for passengers!
Heading to Lalazar
Lalazar, our destination, is only 4.1 km away from Batakundi. The route, called Lalazar Road, is on the Mansehra-Naran-Babusar-Chillas highway toward Babusar. It is approximately a 16-minute drive from Batakundi but could take long since the route is harsh and unstable.
Although the track is navigable by jeeps, only the local skilled drivers can traverse this terrain. It’s a tough, narrow trail, with a dangerous muddy road winding beside a deep ravine with river Kunhar flowing.
As we moved, the wonders of nature’s bounty immediately captivated by us. Throughout the mountainous track, we could witness the marvelous surroundings. The meadows and the dense trees couldn’t look better in a jaw-dropping 360° view.
Numerous jeeps passed us along the way, and whenever one had to cross us, we had our hearts out until the drivers marveled at the coordination required on this narrow path. This was surely not for any novice driver, and we were happy with our decision to board this jeep. One must be prepared for some strenuous uphill climbs because the trail is steep and bumpy.
Fifteen minutes into our drive, a little drizzle began to fall. The rugged path was now more slippery. Covering this in a jeep was a scary experience, and every switchback was no less than a nightmare, seeing the deep ravine alongside the path. However, landscapes were becoming more dramatic.
The voice of river Kunhar flowing a thousand miles below the valley was like a soothing melody in the background. The birds chirping, meadows carpeted in wildflowers, and witnessing ice-capped mountains, pine trees, and stunning landscapes were everything to keep us refreshed. The visual and aural treats made it truly an unforgettable experience.
Reaching the Breathtaking Lalazar Meadow
Finally, after almost a one-hour drive, we were in the picturesque meadow of Lalazar. The rugged path had led us to a place of unparalleled beauty, a place with sheer serenity, away from all the hustle and bustle. The route was challenging, but the reward was definitely worth it. The lush meadows and idyllic natural beauty of the place looked ethereal.
Called “Land of Flowers,” Lalazar becomes heavenly every spring when vibrant wildflower blanket the entire landscape in a breathtaking display.
The residents welcomed us with their friendly smiles and open hearts. We engaged in conversions with them and learned about their daily lives, the local customs, and the traditions of the place. We spent a night in a hotel and wandered till dark to make the best of our time in the enchanting town of Batakundi.
Conclusion
This journey could be a great family trip or an individual adventure. The best time to visit these geologically unique meadows is June to August. Though, we were hesitate to visit first, and befuddled if it was safe to visit Pakistan or not, but then the expedition was totally worth it and made it one of the best memories of ours.
For everyone looking for the best vacation trip, this adventure from Batakundi to Lalazar is worth embracing!
