Hello fellow enthusiasts! Are you an adventure junkie looking for a unique journey? Then look no more! Because this journey to Ansoo Lake that we are about to narrate is the perfect plan for you.

An expedition that is etched into our hearts. Pakistan, blessed with natural beauty, has become an emerging trekking destination in recent years. Other than the mighty K2, the country’s northern areas, particularly, have been voted among the best trekking regions by numerous travel magazines.

One such trekking trail that has been gaining popularity among hikers worldwide is the journey from Jheel Saif ul Malook to Ansoo Lake, located in Kaghan Valley KPK. No roads lead to Ansoo Lake, so the only way is trekking. Only thrill-seekers can embark on it to get the visual treat. I, a dauntless individual from Russia, couldn’t resist and set off for the journey that ended up being the best one for me. Let me narrate our adventurous trekking expedition for you!

Start of the Journey from Saif ul Malooq

Early in the morning while staying in Naran with a tour group, we woke up for our venture to Saif ul Malooq. As the mountainous lake lies at an elevation of 3,224 meters above sea level, you can either hike up or hire a jeep. We chose the jeep ride for this one to save our energy and conserve it for the challenging trek ahead.

The jeep was enough for 6-7 persons with a 2500-3000 PKR fare. The vehicle is hired for round trip, but if someone chooses to journey further to Ansoo Lake, they can hire the jeep for one way. Our 4×4 navigated through rugged terrains and steep tracks. We witnessed the changing landscape and atmosphere while ascending up. There was a change in the air as we went up the altitude. The best thing about this journey was driving through cascades.

Saif ul Malooq – the “Lake of Fairies”

After an approximately 30-40 minutes thrilling jeep drive, we reached Saif ul Malooq, the “Lake of Fairies.” It is one of the country’s most famous tourist spots due to its exquisite beauty and mystical allure. The stunning beauty of the place, with its crystal-clear water and snowy peaks, dropped our jaws. The start of the journey had already become a majestic one. We spent some time admiring the enchanting lake and heard interesting mystical tales of fairies and princes intertwined with the place. We were ready to set off for our destination – Ansoo Lake.

Ansoo, “the Tear Shaped” Lake

Ansoo Lake, the hidden gem, is at a distance of 7.1 km, which takes 7-9 hours from Saif ul Malooq. If it turns dark during return, one can have a night stay at Saif ul Malooq where you can put up a tent. You can even rent a horse that takes you to a certain point, but the next path has to be covered on foot.

The natural reservoir is not easily approachable, and the trek could be more perilous. Although it is doable, yet not a family adventure. It is necessary to be prepared for this strenuous trek with all the prerequisites. Proper trekking and hiking gear such hiking boots, medicines, warm clothes, a rainproof jacket, and a reliable backpack. Be sure to be physically fit and healthy before attempting this trek to avoid any inconvenience. This is one of the most difficult journeys; one must be completely equipped.

We were ready with our gear and started our journey towards Ansoo Lake. The trek can be divided into two halves: One starts from Saif ul Malooq and leads to Malika Parbat base camp, and the second part is where the trek gets tough and notably challenging. But the final destination of Ansoo Lake makes the tedious journey worth it.

Expedition Towards Ansoo Lake

The first half of our trek from Saif ul Malook to Ansoo Lake was an exhilarating journey that took us through the terrain. However, the awe-inspiring landscapes kept us refreshed as we forged ahead on our thrilling journey. We finally reached the fascinating Malika Parbat, proudly known as “The Queen of Mountains in Northern Pakistan.” The snow-capped peak with pristine beauty offered a stunning view. The region is known to be rich in flora and fauna. After a while, we resumed our journey, ready to tackle the challenges of the second half.

This part of the journey was a steeper one. The track was short and unstable, with a path that took us through rocky terrain. We realized why the journey was not for fainted hearts, as it was quite difficult and required you to be physically fit and prepared for this part of the trek. The air grew crisper, and the surroundings became rugged. The best thing was we were closer than ever to our majestic destination.

The First Look of Ansoo Lake

After an arduous journey, the glimpse of Ansoo Lake was none less than a cherished reward. Ansoo Lake, named after its teardrop-shaped waters, left us in awe completely. The mystical lake felt like it was kept hidden from all the world, but we were fortunate enough to witness it. The lake is surrounded by towering peaks, and at an altitude of 4,245 metres (13,927 ft), it’s one of the highest lakes in the Himalayas. The lake was completely covered with ice since it is located at such a high altitude.

The lake’s reflection of the glaciers, its freezing cold water, the fog, and the clouds around it all created a surreal atmosphere. It took our breaths away, and we were left in awe, watching this hidden jewel. Our guide narrated the interesting legends attached to Ansoo Lake and how the gem was discovered by a Pakistan Air Force Pilot in 1993.

Bidding Goodbye to Mystical Lake

As the day drew close, we bid goodbye to the enchanting Ansoo Lake. Although our bodies were reluctantly tired because of the tough trek, the awe-inspiring moments at this lake rejuvenated us. We retraced our steps back with an everlasting memory.

This trekking journey is for those who have a passion for adventure. If you are one of them, do not miss this once-in-a-lifetime journey to experience the mystical Ansoo Lake.
